About the client
DeKalb Medical Center is a not-for-profit hospital system that includes the 451-bed DeKalb Medical Center on North Decatur Road in Decatur, the 76-bed DeKalb Medical Center at Decatur in downtown Decatur and the new 100-bed DeKalb Medical Center at Hillandale in Lithonia. A leader in progressive medical technology, the hospital system serves approximately 500,000 patients annually and offers a variety of community outreach programs.

About the project
During DeKalb Medical Center's conversion from ICO Invision to RCO Invision, Stoltenberg consultants took over support for the existing system freeing up the medical center's own technical team to work on the installation. The project was completed in 18 months as a result, with updates and HIPAA compliance incorporated into the installation process.

This flexible Stoltenberg approach afforded the medical center several advantages:

• The medical center's own team could concentrate on learning the new system along side the vendor installation team making the transition more seamless.
• It kept current systems up and functioning during installation to minimize disruption of patient accounting, patient management and billing.
• It reduced the number of support staff needed during installation and relied on Stoltenberg consultants with specific expertise, e.g., patient accounting and HIPAA.

A regular conference call with the project teams was an effective means of strategizing on the various installation phases to address relevant systems changes and issues as the installation progressed.
